MASON CITY — Mason City police are continuing their investigation into shots being fired early Saturday morning in the northwestern part of town.

Chief Jeff Brinkley says shortly before 2:15 Saturday morning, officers were called to the scene of a possible shooting at Enterprise Alley and Washington Avenue along 12th Northwest. On arrival, officers found bullet casings and blood at the scene.

Brinkley says at least two vehicles were involved and there was an altercation that happened before the shots were fired. During the investigation, patrol officers recognized the description of one of the vehicles provided by a witness, with that vehicle located a short time later on South Washington.

A search warrant was later executed at the residence without issue, and the investigation is ongoing. Brinkley adds that no one has reported being a victim of the shooting, and he does not believe there’s an ongoing risk to the community.
