Mason City man sentenced for attacking woman in her home
MASON CITY — A Mason City man charged with attacking a woman in her home this spring has been sentenced to two months in jail and probation.
34-year-old Joshua Rinnels was accused of forcing his way into a home in the 600 block of South President in the early morning hours of April 16th. He allegedly pushed a woman in the home to the ground, then forced the woman outside and slammed her head against a tree in the front yard.
Rinnels was charged with first-degree burglary, first-degree theft as well as first offense domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to second-degree burglary, fourth-degree theft and domestic assault.
District Judge Christopher Foy last week sentenced Rinnels to ten years in prison on the second-degree burglary charge, with that sentence being suspended, and placed him on three to five years probation, as well as 30 days in jail on the domestic abuse assault and fourth-degree theft charges.
