Floyd County man facing sexual abuse charges ruled incompetent to stand trial

CHARLES CITY — A Floyd County man accused of sexual abuse has been ruled incompetent to stand trial.

63-year-old Charles Thompson of Floyd was arrested in October 2019 on a charge of second-degree sexual abuse, lascivious acts with a child, two counts of indecent contact with a child, dissemination and exhibition of obscene materials to a minor, and assault with intent to commit sexual abuse. Court documents state that Thompson’s victims were females between the ages of eight and 15, with the incidents happening between 2018 and 2019.

After a mental evaluation was recently given, a judge on Monday suspended the case and ordered that Thompson be held at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center for treatment until his mental state was restored and he was able to stand trial for the charges.
