Mason City Public Library: The Jefferson Highway 📚
February 3 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
What: The Jefferson Highway
Presenter: Kathy Hotchkiss
Date/Day: 3 February 2024 – Saturday
Time: 2:00 P.M.
Location: Mason City Public Library – Mason City Room
Workshop Description: The program will cover the Jefferson Highway (currently Highway 65) in Iowa, The Jefferson Highway Caravan (that stopped in Mason City last year), and how Ms. Hotchkiss became interested in the topic.
Speaker Bio: Kathy Hotchkiss grew up on a farm NW of Hampton, the oldest of 4 daughters of Howard and Melba Muhlenbruch. Her interest in the Jefferson Highway, the topic of her presentation, began when her family learned that the old metal sign Howard unearthed on the farm in 1955 marked the original route of the JH’s predecessor, the Interstate Trail. Kathy lives in Moline, IL with her husband Steve. She has been very active in The Questers, recently serving as International 2nd Vice President and Illinois State President. She and a friend also participated in last summer’s Sociability Caravan through Iowa and the JH Conference in Mason City. Kathy is enjoying retirement after a career in health care, and looks forward to sharing her knowledge of the Jefferson Highway and her family’s unusual story of a rusty old sign with you.
