Mason City Memorial Day Ceremony🎖

Mason City Veterans Memorial Association began Memorial Day celebrations in May 1921.
We will celebrate Memorial Day services on Monday, May 29, 2023 with assembly at 9:15 and services beginning at 9:30 at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.
Activities include the Mason City High School Concert Band, vocal performance by Samantha Pang of Newman High School, invocation and benediction by Chaplain Norris Hughes, Boy Scout reading Gettysburg Address and flag salute, Mayor Bill Schickel giving Mayor’s Proclamation, a reading of General Orders #11 by Jim wolf representing the Sons of Union Veterans of Civil War, and a wreath laying ceremony by several patriotic organizations.
This is the seventh year the Patriot Tour will officially stop in Mason City. They will be part of our Memorial Day services. Free will donations will be accepted to support veterans and their families in need of services. The public is invited to join in the Patriot Tour Flag escort to Ames.
Bikes, trikes, cars and trucks are all welcome.
Guest speaker will be Leon Christianson, Marine Corps Leagues Associate member. Mr. Christianson actively participated in building the Lake Mills veterans monument, eight Honor Flights to Washington D.C., Committee to Welcome Home Viet Nam Veterans Operation LZ, Toys for Tots and the NIACC Foundation.
A car caravan will proceed to from Elmwood to Memorial Park Cemetery for a brief program. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony at the All Vets Center, 1603 South Monroe, Mason City.
