Leadership Students to Provide Friday Night Entertainment
MASON CITY, IA – In recent years, the Leadership North Iowa (LNI) group has completed a community impact project as part of its program curriculum. Facilitated by the Mason City Chamber of Commerce, LNI provides leadership training for up-and-coming business people from the North Iowa area. This year’s Leadership North Iowa class is celebrating Mason City’s musical talents with free music downtown every Friday night this summer.
The Friday Night Summer Plaza Series is the result of class brainstorming to find a project that would utilize the newly-completed indoor/outdoor performing arts pavilion on the downtown plaza.
Free entertainment will take place 5-7PM every Friday night from June through August.
The June lineup is set and the class is working on securing entertainment for the remainder of the summer. If a band is interested in performing, please contact Noah Harris at the Chamber (641.423.5724) or send a message through the Friday Night Summer Plaza Series Facebook page.
June 3 | The Hats
June 10 | Little Bluestem
June 17 | The Mercury Three
June 24 | Betty and the Gents
Class members solicited sponsorships from local businesses and they partnered with the North Iowa Band Festival Foundation to submit several grant applications. Funds will be used to pay local artists and potentially purchase basic sound equipment for use at the facility.
With the indoor capability at the new pavilion, even in the event of inclement weather, the show will go on! The Leadership class is excited to bring a consistent schedule of live music to downtown Mason City this summer. When planning the project, the class was hoping the series would continue after this summer and after discussions with Main Street Mason City, their organization has agreed to continue the series into future years.
Leadership North Iowa, which originated in 1983, is a program of the Mason City Chamber of Commerce. The program provides leadership training for up-and-coming business people from the North Iowa area.
